BATU Introduction

Introduction to the Bellavista Assessment and Training Unit
The Bellavista Assessment and Training Unit is an integral part of Bellavista School. Under the auspices of Viv van Staden, an educational psychologist with many years experience in education, remedial and children with special needs, the Unit has a number of experienced psychologists and therapists working in teams. These teams conduct assessments locally and nationally. These assessments are diagnostic intended to recommend the specific support needed to a child so that he/ she reaches full learning potential in the school going years.

Currently the assessments on offer include:

Educational Assessment
Screening for Dyslexia and Dyscalculia
Ed Psych Assessment (WISC IV and emotional)
Speech and Language Assessment
Occupational Therapy Assessment

As of January 2010 we will have an audiologist on site.

BATU assists the school by both recommending candidates for remedial school placement and sharing the depth of expertise the staff embodies.

The Bellavista Assessment and Training Unit is also responsible for hosting evening talks for parents, educators and therapists on current and relevant topics.
Workshops for teacher training are offered in the afternoons as advertised.
These events are advertised in the school's weekly newsletter, but also to a large email data base.
